Mrs. Lukowiak: English

Welcome to our class! My name is Mrs. Lukowiak and this is my 30th year in the classroom. Born and raised in rural Greentown, Indiana, I am a third generation Eastern Comet graduate. My grandpa, dad, uncles, cousins, brothers, sons, and nephews all graduated from or still attend Eastern. I graduated from Olivet Nazarene University in 1995 with my bachelor's. degree in English Education and earned my masters in English Education in 2000.

 

I started teaching at Eastern and spent two years in junior high and high school English and yearbook. I have been teaching at Peru Community Schools for 28 years now. I truly enjoy all ages and grades I've taught, but my heart is and has always been in junior high.

 

I have been married to my best friend, Paul, for 25 years and we have two amazing and talented sons, Jacob and Reagan. We complete our little family with our fur baby, a mini Labradoodle named Rocky. We love spending time in our "home sweet home away from home" in East Tennessee and in our beach villa in Hilton Head, South Carolina. I enjoy reading, mostly historical fiction, and have a goal to read 85 books by the end of the year. On any given weekend, I can be found watching my beloved University of Tennessee Volunteers (football, basketball, softball, baseball--GO VOLS!!!)

 

I currently teach both the honors 7 English and honors 8 English classes and have "looped" for over a decade. I LOVE being able to see how our students grow from seventh grade into the end of their eighth grade year. It is such a treat and I am humbled to be a part of their journey into adulthood. I also teach the Success 8 class, where we use a platform called Read 180. This program combines technology, independent reading, and small group instruction based on individual reading needs and goals.

 

I love Peru and love our students! We have a classroom "pet", Gus the Goose, who is always watching out for our students in the hallways! We also have a PRIVATE Facebook Group for parents and/or guardians to request to join. That group is Lukowiak Learners. There you can find pictures, videos, information, etc of my scholars.

 

My goal and philosophy has always been to make the learning experience for all our students meaningful, engaging, and memorable for years to come.
